PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CARE
Preventative medicine refers to the measures taken in order to prevent diseases or injuries rather than treating their symptoms. Ideally, preventative health care is undertaken by pet owners in order to prevent or catch the problem before it has a chance to become serious.

Just as annual physical examinations are recommended for us, they are also recommended for our furry friends. As pets age quicker than humans, a yearly examination for your pet is equivalent to 5 yearly exam for us. This means that it is imperative for your animal’s health that they get their check-up each year.
A senior pet, which is classified as any cat or dog over the age of 7, or any animal with a pre-existing medical condition may require more regular checkups.

The standard physical exam involves reviewing any or all of the following aspects of your pet’s health:
-
Vaccination status
-
Parasite control
-
Dental health
-
Nutrition
-
Exercise regimes
-
Ears & eyes – any inflammation, redness, shaking of the head.
-
Digestive system – any upsets; vomiting, diarrhoea, gas or abnormal stools
-
Respiratory system – any coughing, shortness of breath or laboured breathing
-
Behavioural problems
-
Skin – shedding, alopecia, inflammation, redness, itchiness
-
Legs & joints – stiffness, limping, arthritic pain
